About (Archival Page: 2018-2020)
GalleryGRRRLS is a monthly art hang.
once a month i take a survey of what's going on in the new york city art scene (sometimes the tri-state area), looking for an interesting theme or trend, and y'all are always welcome to join. a typical meetup is 2 or 3 galleries and then drinks a bar nearby to digest and talk about the art we saw.

History
galleryGRRRLS started when i realized i was bopping around, curating a day of looking at art, and thought other folks might be interested in coming too.
the group name is a tongue-in-cheek reference to the short-lived Bravo reality TV series, Gallery Girls, with riot grrrl twist. (however, given the criticism of the riot grrrl movement, i make it a point to say that gallerygrrrls is gender-inclusive and that all folks are welcome). when looking for themes and trends, i try to highlight female artists and artists of color -while keeping a general eye on what's up in the new york art world.
in 2018 i teamed up with amber dennis and jasimine magaña at Feminsta Social Club to post about events.
in 2019 i added field trips - to shed light on things that i was excited about going on in new jersey and connecticut and created a formal MeetUp group to invite folks outside of my traditional orbit.
in 2020 i decided to end GalleryGrrrls and re-imagine it taking into consideration socio-political realities of art viewing and the boarder contexts of which art faces. (Now Gallery Goers)
